A Politician Watching Porn, Indonesia & Freedom of Expression…

So I am going to start blogging more. Twitter is cool but I have never been one for limiting myself to 140 words or less. That being said, if you are following me on twitter, by now are aware that a quite unlikely love affair of sorts has sprung up with Indonesia. Now before you say “Vicky… you are nuts”, some of my older fans will remember that there are a lot of roots between myself and this nation in the Pacific (where Obama indeed went to school). I first became aware of a fan base in Indonesia when an Indonesian rock band called “VickyVette” contacted me a few years ago. I blogged about it at a place called ‘Myspace’ (yes I am being sarcastic about the demise of Myspace). I was honored, if not befuddled why a rock band in Indonesia had named themselves after me.

With the advent of twitter, I started to get tons of tweets from Indonesian fans. I looked into the country a bit more and was shocked to see that porn was banned in that country. Never one to shy away from issues of freedom of expression, I tweeted quite a bit about a famous singer known as ‘Peterporn’ who was arrested (and subsequently jailed for three years) when a number of sex tapes surfaced with him in them. I also made some jokes about government official Tifatul Sembiring shaking Michelle Obama’s hand (which is strictly forbidden because she is a woman). Similarly when the publisher of Playboy was jailed for two years for putting out a clothed version of the magazine, my tweets and opinions were strangely somehow of importance. My website is blocked in Indonesia by the government along with most if not all adult sites. For my tweets to get front page attention seemed quite strange given my background…. I am Norwegian after all – why would anyone in that part of the world care about an opinion of a MILF porn chick?

I have a very fond affection for my Indonesian fans. They are kind, inquisitive & friendly. I am in a unique position to speak out and voice an opinion about rights and freedoms even though I shoot porn – something strictly forbidden in Indonesia punishable by prison. Amazingly some well known figures in mainstream Indonesian life have befriended me on twitter, such as a well known reporter Chantal Concetta & actress Julia Perez. I am honored to have their friendship… which I think is brave considering some of the risque jokes I make about government officials.

All of this brings me to Mr. Arifinto – a well known politician in Indonesia with a hard line stance against pornography in that country. It was recently reported in the news that Mr. Arifinto was watching porn on his handheld while in the government building. His defense? He had unknowingly opened an email from someone containing porn. As a joke, I tweeted sarcastically ‘I hope Mr. Arifinto enjoyed the email I sent him. I sent him my best pics’. Never in a million years did I think that tweet was going to get much attention BUT media outlets including state television and major newspapers began reporting that I was the one who ‘admitted’ to sending him porn.

I was shocked….. especially when the next day Mr. Arifinto stepped down from parliament in shame. My followers started tweeting met that I should run for government office in Indonesia.

I am guessing that the government, which has a strict stance against porn must loathe me. A blonde busty Norwegian pornstar with Indonesian followers tweeting about how their freedom of expression is being trampled on, making jokes about senior government officials like Tif Sembiring and Mr. Arifinto, and tweeting Indonesian words like ‘toket’ (boobs). I have no plans to fly to Indonesia any time soon…. which is too bad because I would love to visit. I am sure while I have tons of fans, there are radical fundamentalists who would love nothing better than to stone me.

I really wish nothing but the best to the people of Indonesia and indeed the government there. I do however champion freedom of speech and think jailing people for consensual sex on videotape is flat out a violation of human rights. It is only sex afterall. I recognize that different cultures have different morals and standards but I liken curbs against porn in that country to the jailing of Larry Flynt for obscenity in the USA just about 40 years ago.

I would like to think that maybe, in some small way, this pornstar is helping at least get a dialogue started so that the restrictions on porn and sexuality in that part of the world are eased. Until then, hopefully the Indonesian people are not subjected to the same type of crack downs which have resulted in long term prison sentences for behavior we take for granted in this country.

Beam me up Scotty. I need to learn some more Indonesian – google translate sucks.

Selamat Pagi Indonesia… or is that Malam?

Vicky Vette

PS Yes… the first picture is Mr. Arifinto – photoshopped with my image and intended to be funny…. it seems I have to be careful mentioning that these days!
